Pharmacological action | Lavamisole is an imidazole thiazole that acts by interfering with parasite neurotransmission, causing muscle paralysis. It is effective against adult and immature gastrointestinal roundworm and lungworm infections. Hydroxyclozanide is a salicylanilide that is primarily effective against adult liver flukes. It is distributed to the liver, kidneys, and intestines and is excreted in the bile. Target species Cattle, calves, sheep, and goats. |
Indications | For the treatment and control of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematode infections and adult liver fluke infections. Removes most mature Fasciola spp. (trematodes) present in the hepatobiliary ducts. |
Directions and Dosage | Oral: Cattle, calves: 2.5 ml per 10 kg body weight. Sheep and goats: 1 ml per 4 kg body weight. Shake well before use. |
Contraindications | Animals must not be treated within 14 days before or after the use of organophosphorus compounds. |
Precautions | Special Precautions for Use in Animals Care should be taken to accurately estimate the weight of the animal to be treated. Always shake the container well before use. After treatment, animals should be moved to a clean pasture to prevent reinfection. Veterinarians should be consulted for appropriate dosing regimens to reduce the potential for development of antihelminthic resistance. Veterinarians should be consulted if the product does not achieve the desired clinical effect as other diseases, nutritional disorders, or antihelminthic resistance may be involved. Special Precautions for Personnel Administering Veterinary Drugs to Animals Wash hands after use. Keep out of reach of children. Adverse Reactions | At normal doses of oxclozanide, cattle feces may become slightly softer and occasionally animals may experience increased frequency of defecation and transient loss of appetite. In rare cases, sheep may experience an allergic reaction with swelling of the head. |
Drug Interactions | Cattle should not be treated within 14 days before or after treatment with organophosphorus compounds. |
Withdrawal Period | For meat: 5 days. For milk: Do not use in cattle and sheep producing milk for human consumption. |
